Kate Throneburg

Director - Grants & Special Projects

Kate is the Director of Grants & Special Projects at American Engineering Group (AEG) International based in Charlotte, NC. Kate’s current work focuses on advancing and writing grants for renewable energy technology projects in the United States and the Democratic Republic of Congo.


Prior to joining AEG in 2019, Kate served as Regional Get Out the Vote Director for the North Carolina "Break the Majority" statewide legislative campaign and Project Manager for two large events affiliated with the United Nations following her graduation from the UNC Transatlantic Master’s program in May of 2018. While in graduate school for political science, she studied in Chapel Hill, NC, and Barcelona, Spain, and spent eight months in Lisbon, Portugal interning at the U.S. Embassy, planning a UN sustainable energy forum, and studying Portuguese. Kate received both an academic year and summer Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education to intensively learn the language. She wrote her thesis on the effects of social media on democratic discourse with a focus on its impact in the U.S. and Catalonia, Spain.

 

Prior to graduate school, Kate served as Executive Assistant to former U.S. Congressman David E. Price (NC-04) in his DC office for two and a half years. Her previous roles include a campaign fundraiser for Democratic Members in the House of Representatives in Washington, DC, a field organizer for President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign in Florida, an operations assistant for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Charlotte, and a development associate at the Bechtler Museum of Art.


She received her undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2011 with majors in History and Psychology. She is a native English speaker, advanced in Spanish, intermediate in Portuguese, and can easily get by in Italian and French with the help of nods, smiles, and hand gestures.


When not at work, Kate enjoys spending her free time with her partner William, their dog Birdie, and their three cats, Minnow, Miso, and Mouse. She can also be found biting off too much to chew with her gardening endeavors, cooking, reading, and traveling.
